Opposition says that the remarks by PM about initiating a sedition case against Maulana Fazalur Rehman soon after an hour of the joint sitting with the Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has apparently “overshadowed” the historic statement of Turkish President over the issue of Kashmir. They are of the view that the “uncalled-for” statement has adversely affected the importance of the 2 days official visits and has diverted the media and parliament’s attention from the statement of Guest.
Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on the other hand accused opposition for harming the Kashmir cause when opposition in November joined hands with Maulana in the JUI – F’s dharna. It was the time when the government was highlighting Kashmir issue at international level. PM briefed the reporters in an informal sitting on 14th February about initiating a treason case against the JUI – F‘s Chief since he has admitted that dharna was staged for the government to collapse.
“Not Government but it was JUI-F dharna that damaged Kashmir cause”, says Firdous Ashiq Awan
PM’s controversial remarks got hype in the sessions of Senate and National assembly as well as in media. In the sessions of Senate and NA legislators even forgot to give the Turkish President vote of thanks on his support for Pakistan’s point of view on Kashmir. They kept discussing the remarks by PM. Opposition blamed PM that his remarks restrained the parliamentarian from interacting and briefing media about the joint sitting.
PML – N information secretary Marriyum Aurangzaib accused that the statement by PM has shifted the focus on the discussion about Kashmir and Palestine away. She said, “he could never grow out of his petty container-top mindset”.
She crashed on PM’s verbal comment about JUI-F chief as a traitor. She said that the PM could not, even for one day, try to pose as a reasonable representative of country as an acceptable figure because he just did not have it in him. She added, “Imran could not regard President Erdogan’s presence for a day and step out of his vitriol spewing container mode because that was not an act, that’s the crass, prudish and uncultured person Imran really is”. She further added that Imran Khan’s immature and disgraceful statement has wasted all the gains which could be achieved because of President Erdogan’s statement on Kashmir & Palestine.
“Whoever points out Imran’s corruption, incompetence and cluelessness would be dubbed a traitor? Whoever questions his blatant abuse of power is a traitor? Imran paralyzed the country, delayed the Chinese president’s visit, incited people to drag sitting prime minister [Nawaz Sharif] by the throat, called for civil disobedience, incited people to circumvent banking transactions, burnt utility bills, undermined democracy with his umpire-finger narrative and all that is patriotic, but when someone like Fazlur Rehman stands up for the rights of people crushed by Imran’s incompetent regime, he is titled a traitor”.
“If Imran isn’t corrupt, how come he funds his lavish cars and Banigala mansion without any significant sources of income? How did he buy a Rs130 million house in Lahore?”
Opposition declared PM, Tareen and Bakhtiyar responsible for Wheat and Sugar crises
Ms Marriyum also added: “If Imran isn’t corrupt why is he not letting anyone expose the records of Jahangir Tareen and Khusro Bakhtiar’s sugar mills. If he is clean why doesn’t he form an investigative commission on historic Rs 13,000 billion new loan. If he isn’t corrupt why did Imran not reprimand his ministers for ‘dacoity’ on people’s pockets through medicine cost spike, electricity and gas tariffs hike?”
She blamed Imran Khan, Jahangir Tareen and Khusro Bakhtiar to be the only lynch-pins that are responsible for the wheat & sugar mafia creating the price crises in Pakistan. Meanwhile, PPP senior leader Farhatullah Babar commented through a statement that Prime minister Khan, notwithstanding his rhetoric, has never been serious about solving the Kashmir issue.
He added, “One feels that he deliberately chased and hounded the opposition to preempt a truly collective national response to a national challenge arising out of Aug 5 annexation of held Kashmir by India. Iran, Turkey and Malaysia are the only three countries of the OIC that stood solidly with Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Yet he ditched them at the time of Kaula Lampur summit even though he had accepted the invitation”.
Before the session, Mr Babar said Mr Erdogan made a powerful speech on Kashmir issue, but the impacts of speech were lost, when Prime Minister, for no apparent reason, suddenly changed the focus of public discourse, and caused the media space and time to be shifted towards a non-issue. “Whether it was deliberate or was result of stupidity, one thing is clear: Mr Khan’s incompetence is exposed as never before”. When contacted, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan replied: “If he [the PM] had said so then what. Please move forward. What is next?” She said the PM, being the biggest advocate on the Kashmir cause has always raised the Kashmir issue effectively at all international forums.
She said, “If on one hand Imran Khan’s remarks are criticized, on the other credit goes to him for inviting United Nation Secretary General Antonio Guterres who also gave a big statement on Kashmir”.
