Chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has revealed that Islamabad sit-in was ended when he was assured that PM Imran Khan would step down on immediate basis and that after 3 months of his resignation new elections would be held. Maulana Fazl said, before claiming above, “I urge Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to disclose the secret he is carrying as amanat.”
He did not declare the names of persons assuring him about PM resignation and new elections. Analyst say that PTI government was not subject to any vulnerable situations during the JUI-F protest and the situations did not show any indications of such commitment from PTI side.
“JUI-F fresh protest will start in the last week of February”, says Rehman
While scolding the government about its failure to control the price hike, Moulana announced to bring his party again on streets. New protest will start on February 23, 2020 from Karachi. He said that the purposes of Azadi March of JUI – F starting last November could not be accomplished. He blamed Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for the failure since these two parties withdrew their support for the protest.
The JUI-F 13-day (from Nov 1 to 13, 2019) sit-in was staged on Kashmir Road Islamabad which ended abruptly on announcement of moving to plan B by the party chief i.e. going to block numerous major roads across the whole country. During the sit in, Chaudhrys met JUI leadership a number of times.
After meeting Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith chief Prof Sajid Mir in Lahore on Sunday, Maulana Fazal briefed media. He said that he is considering to invite the Chaudhrys of Gujrat in his public meetings if they withdraw their support towards PTI. He is planning to hold the meetings across the whole country.
Maulana didn’t mention the names of those who gave him their words about resignation of PM and holding of fresh poles
He claimed that his anti government movement has created fissures in the ruling alliance and that he gives no recognition to the existing parliament since it has been created as a result of a bogus mandate. While replying to another question about the crack in the ruling alliance, he said that such issues appear when the government does not keep the words it had given to its allies.
He denied any links and coordination between him and former president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif because of votes casted by the 2 parties in favor of amendment in the Army Act. The said amendment has given the PM power for extending the tenure of chief of army staff. However the negotiation doors are not closed and he is open for discussion if approached by the two parties. He claimed that at first the support of PPP was conditional however the proposed changes were withdrawn and both the parties gave unconditional support to the amendment.
He said that due to the extension issue being discussed in the courts as well as in parliament, the PTI government has lost support from “some forces” and a vacuum exists in the power corridors at present. He said that opposition was trying to stick to its point however mindset of majority cannot be changed. Due to which JUI F is now planning to come in streets from February 23 in Karachi. A national convention will be held in Islamabad on March 01, 2020 followed by a public meeting on March 19, 2020 in Lahore for bringing people together on a single platform.
He motivated people to positively respond to his call for removal of “incompetent” and “illegal” government. He briefed media about discussion on the third phase of anti government protest and scenario of national politics between him and Professor Mir.
