Shehbaz Sharif again refused to appear before NAB on Wednesday saying that current Corona situation did not permit him to have the said session with the NAB authorities. On the other side, NAB also rejected Shehbaz Sharif’s request to conduct the question answer session through video link and directed him to appear finally on May 04, 2020.
NAB on Monday cautioned a strict action against Mian Shehbaz Sharif for not cooperating with the anti-graft watchdog. On the other side the opposition party PML-N demanded a live broadcast of questioning from Mr. Sharif in the session on coming Wednesday. Shehbaz Sharif has been summoned by the NAB on April 22, 2020 for investigation in money laundering and income beyond means case.
Shehbaz Sharif had not appeared before NAB on last Friday pleading that his doctors had advised him limited movements and exposure on account of Covid-19 for his age (69 years) and disease (Cancer).
PML-N demands a live broad cast of NAB V/S Sharif question-answer session
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Mariyam Aurangzaib and Musaddiq Malik demanded NAB on Monday for the said broadcast so that People might know the real facts of the investigation. They also blamed NAB for being used as a tool for political victimization of the opposition leaders, fearing that nobody would do politics and investments in Pakistan in such circumstances. The three opposition leaders also asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to produce a live quiz for PM Imran Khan and his advisor Shehzad Akbar in the investigation (income beyond means) who fabricated a lame story against the Sharif family while using a British journalist for this purpose. Talking about Saad Raifque case, Abbasi said that the Supreme Court had declared NAB to be either incompetent or dishonest in the said case. “NAB had claimed to have solid evidence against Sharif in a raid six months ago; where are those evidences”, Abbasi asked.
“Government could not prove even a single penny of corruption on Shehbaz”, said Abbasi
Abbasi bashed the Government and NAB for developing wrong cases that had been established on political basis against Shehbaz Sharif like Saaf Pani , Ashiyana Housing and construction of a bridge on a drain. “In spite of their strenuous efforts to get him involved in the said cases, the dummy institutions could not establish a single charge of corruption of misuse of authority against Shehbaz Sharif. Bail from the Lahore High Court (LHC) proved his innocence and now NAB launched a new investigation in the form of “income beyond means “against Shehbaz Sharif”, Abbasi added.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inquired why NAB could not see corruption in the sugar and flour scam and why it was unable to investigate the issues in Finance Ministry, SBP and Karachi Port Trust (KPT). He added that the Opposition had been extending its support and cooperation with the Government to cope with Covid-19 fatal outbreak but the rulers seemed to have different intentions and priorities even in these circumstances. “Government’s focus is simply confined to engage the opposition in false cases so as to keep them away from the matters. Shehbaz Sharif came back to Pakistan to assist the Government fight against the Corona Virus however the PTI-led Government directed NAB to summon a cancer patient in an investigation for which the evidences and details had already been provided to the FBR (Income and Expenditure).
Meanwhile the MPA of PML-N Sumera Komal submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly saying that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had been misusing its authority by summoning Shehbaz Sharif in the said investigation. Moreover, the resolution read that the Government and its institutions had completely failed to provide any evidence against Mr. Sharif and other leaders of the biggest opposition party PML-N. The resolution also demanded the Assembly to stop NAB from proceeding in the investigation as it had lost its credibility due to its partial behavior and acts.
