While PML-N and PPP had to face defeat in AJK elections, both parties reacted differently to the results. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) expressed its jubilation over locking 11 seats and termed it a starting point for re-emerging in the next general elections.
PPP stalwart and former Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that it was a glorious success and the number of seats PPP got in AJK polls highlighted that the country was ready to welcome Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as the new leader. He praised the efforts of the party workers in AJK under the leadership of Chaudhry Lateef Akbar, who bravely faced the state machinery and non-democratic forces. Kaira claimed that the people of AJK completely rejected Imran Khan’s government for its poor performance, price hike and unemployment.
AJK polls results will help PPP re-emerge in next general elections, PPP Qamar Zaman Kaira claimed
Kaira slammed the ruling party (PTI) for using state machinery in the polls where the Election Commission seemed to be powerless. He mentioned that one of the Federal Ministers openly violated the ECP code of conduct during the election campaign. Kaira demanded strict action from the election authority against the said minister. The former information minister said that he could foresee Bilawal leading the country from the front in the upcoming era.
Former deputy speaker of National Assembly and PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi claimed that PPP’s AJK chapter not only contended the other parties but also faced the Federal and AJK governments at the same time. He mentioned that despite all the unfavorable factors, Pakistan People’s Party came out as the major opposition party in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Reacting to the press conference of Sheikh Rashid and Fawad Chaudhry, Mr Kundi said that both of them should think seriously about their political future. He mentioned that the way Murad Saeed and Gandapur acted in the election campaign was regrettable as the AJK Election Commission failed to establish its writ during polls due to extreme intervention from Mr Khan’s government.
PML-N showed an entirely different stance on AJK polls and categorically rejected the results. The top PML-N leadership accused Punjab government of utilizing its machinery so as to bring the desired results. Maryam Nawaz shared on social media that she did not accept the results of 2018 general elections and the 2021 AJK elections. She mentioned that consensus was under way against the rigged elections and the party’s strategy would be shared soon in this connection.
July 25 is the rigging day when Buzdar Administration used Punjab’s resources to get desired results in AJK polls, PML-N Azma Bokhari said
PML-N Information Secretary in Punjab, Azma Bokhari termed July 25 the “rigging day” where officials from Punjab including police, teachers, polling and other administrative staff were moved to the AJK on the orders of Buzdar administration to rig the polls. She blamed that Usman Buzdar’s special assistant, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas used the provincial government resources to complete the task. This is important to know that Mr Ilyas can be the new Prime Minister of AJK as claimed by the sources. Azma Bokhari hinted moving courts and holding protests against the rigged polls in AJK.
On the other side, PML-N president, Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s absence from the election campaign gave birth to various questions in people’s mind as he even did not address a single rally in AJK. While some people said that it might be the party strategy to make Maryam Nawaz lead from the front, the others termed the whole matter suspicious and fishy. Talking to media, some PML-N leaders claimed that Nawaz Sharif had directed Shahbaz Sharif to focus on the parliamentary politics and let the other things drive through Maryam as being an effective crowd puller.
