The demand from PTI’s provincial leaders sparked after the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani adjourned the session only after calling it one day ago. Talking to the press conference after the session, the leaders of PTI and other opposition parties bashed the ruling party (PPP) calling it a “failed and corrupt” government with no right to rule. Rumors of Governor rule in Sindh had been circulating on social media for a number of days however the Federal government denied any such news and had claimed that the government didn’t intend to make the said move.
“PPP badly failed to deliver in the province”, said Firdous Shamim Naqvi
Firdous Shamim Naqvi criticized the Sindh Government and said that the adjournment of assembly session proved that Agha Siraj Durrani was representing just his party (PPP) and had nothing to do with the assembly affairs. He further disclosed that they were going to hold a meeting with other opposition parties on Wednesday (today) to formulate the new plan of action. Alleging the Sindh government for getting failed to deliver in the province, he urged the imposition of Governor rule in Sindh.
Replying to the question of sacking an elected government going beyond the constitutional limits, Naqvi said that there had been a clear provision of Governor rule in the constitution and there was nothing extra-constitutional in this move. “President could impose a financial emergency in larger interest of people and the propaganda was being made to misguide the people”, Naqvi said. Commenting on the performance of the Sindh government Naqvi said that it didn’t spend a single dime for the well-being of the people and the situation truly called for a change in mode of governance. He further told that not only PTI but other opposition parties also stood along their side to support their narrative.
” We will resist any unconstitutional move by the opposition”, said PPP
Taunting the efficiency and productivity of the Sindh government he said that the performance of PPP led government was only confined to huge claims on media. He urged the government to present their work (if any) on Covid-19 in Assembly sessions without getting afraid of facing people’s representatives. He also raised an appeal to the chief justice to take suo motu notice against the concerned authorities for not conducting regular sessions of the Sindh Assembly. The other members in the press conference along with Firdous Shamim Naqvi included Haleem Adil Sheikh (PTI), Hasnain Mirza (GDA), Arif Jatoi (GDA), Khurram Sher Zaman (PTI) and others.
The PPP government immediately responded to the press conference and intimated to resist any unconstitutional move in the form of Governor rule. Syed Nasir Ali Shah urged the opposition to accept their mandate in Sindh, withdraw their illegal and illogical demand and enhance their relations with the people without getting involved in such conspiracies against an elected government, warning that its consequences could be far reaching.
On 17th May, 2020 (Sunday), the Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz had categorically rejected the imposition of Governor rule in Sindh calling it a sheer propaganda from the anti-state elements to destabilize the things.
“ The main focus of the government these days is to win the battle against Covid-19 and its after effects and this news has been circulated so as to divert its attention from the most important issue however there is nothing like this to consider in current circumstances”, said Faraz.
