In spite of massive criticism and allegations for being used as a political weapon against the opposition and allies of the government, NAB Lahore prepared another reference of corruption (Rs. 7 billion) against Mian Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in connection with Chaudhry Sugar Mills, money laundering and assets beyond means and forwarded to the chairman NAB , Justice (R) Javed Iqbal for approval so as to file it in the accountability court. Moreover, an investigation was also initiated against the Sharif family about the hundreds of acres of land that was illegally acquired to add to their Jati Umra residence.
“The case includes the allegations of money laundering and assets beyond means”, sources claimed
NAB deputy chairman had also held a meeting of pre-executive board on Monday so as to review the proposed draft before presenting it to the NAB executive board meeting for approval by the chairman that is expected to be held next week. Nawaz, Shehbaz and Maryam are the prime suspects as nominated by the NAB whereas Salman Shehbaz and other members of Sharif family have been included in the list of 16 suspects in this case.
“NAB claims to have 100 prosecution witnesses and four approvers against Sharifs. As far as shehbaz, Maryam and Hamza Shehbaz are concerned, they were given the questionnaire in connection with this case, however 80 percent questions were not responded by them”, sources claimed
The allegations on Sharif family included making money through money laundering and having assets beyond means. Shehbaz Sharif has already been summoned to appear before NAB on June 02, 2020 in an investigation of making assets beyond means. Nawaz Sharif is in London on account of his medical treatment since November, 2019 whereas Maryam Nawaz was granted bail to look after her father in November, 2019 and she has been politically inactive since then.
The other investigation against Sharifs involved the illegal acquisition of hundreds of acres of land to make a part of their Jati Umra residence and importantly Shamim Begum (Sharif brothers’ mother) has also been nominated for the said investigation along with her two sons (Nawaz and Shebaz) and Maryam Nawaz. NAB alleged that thousands of kanals of land around Jati Umra was declared residential area in 2014. The then LDA head Ahad Cheema and DCO Lahore Noor-ul-Amin Mengal have also been nominated in investigation for playing the role of facilitators in this “illegal acquisition”.
Moreover, NAB Lahore finalized a corruption reference against Nawaz Sharif, Mir Shakilur Rehman (Jang Editor-in-chief) and two other persons in the 54-kanal land case this week and forwarded it to the chairman for approval.
“Sharifs illegally acquired hundreds of acres of land to add to Jati Umra residence”, NAB alleged
PML-N severely reacted to NAB plan of filing a fresh reference against the Sharif family and declared that the only purpose of disseminating the said news was to insult and tease their leaders but Imran Khan could not hide his massive corruption by diverting the attention towards false and fabricated cases against their leadership.
Maryam Auragnzaib bashed the government saying that the NAB-Niazi alliance could not prove a single penny of corruption on Sharif family and now they have “fixed the cannons” towards their ancestral property. She added that the said unholy alliance should feel ashamed of their selves by dragging a 90 year old mother into their dirty political victimization. She challenged the impartiality of the bureau by pointing out that it could not see Bani Gala, Zaman Park, Flat in Grand Hyatt, 23 illegal secret bank accounts and foreign funding cases against Imran Niazi. She urged NAB to search out Prime Minister house if it seriously wanted to arrest the real patrons and players of corruption.
